some stuff

this is my hair being awesome a couple weeks ago, i slept with it up and this is how it turned out. naturally my hair is straight as an ironing board. people are often jealous of my hair because i don't even blow dry it while they spend hours burning it straight. but i wish my hair would look like this more often without me doing anything to it. didn't last the whole day because it hates to be anything but dead straight but it was good while it lasted.
the other day i was on my way to uni and walking through the galleria and a man was walking towards me. i started to walk diagonally to move out of his way but he was still coming towards me so i kept trying to get out of his way figuring he was trying to get into the shop i was walking past and when we got level i realised he was looking right at me and he got really close and made a weird noise in my ear and kept walking. after a couple more steps the cringe started to wear off and i really wished i'd swung for him. i cringed so bad it actually made the side of my face feel weird. creep.

we went to view a flat today. crossing your fingers works. it was magically huge inside and we have now had it taken off the market! now i'm crossing my fingers for all the paperwork to go smoothly because it's technically still not ours just yet. please please please let it go well. it's a really nice little place on a private road really close to a lovely pub and the train station and it has a dining table. i'm fed up with eating dinner off my lap every day. *fingers crossed*

finished all the imagery for the showcase project. now its being rubbish and not printing well. all the colours are rubbish. i hate scanning and printing. i should have done fine art then i wouldn't have to print my work. but i would be thoroughly annoyed by all the arty crap that doesn't actually make sense. urgh. i just want it to look nice for my show!

will and i were walking across the field on the way home from tesco when we saw this and it made us laugh.
some art:

off to find some dinner now. i reckon it'll have to be nuggets and chips. we really need to go do a proper food shop...

www.beckygarratt.com

everything is mental. 2 weeks left before assessment. 3 weeks before the degree show. quite scared and excited. hope my show turns out good.
i now have a proper real website. its still 'under construction' but i'm slowly figuring out how it works.

i've been scanning in stuff i want to show off on it and when going through some stuff found some photos that i actually did with film and devoloped myself. for a first attempt i think they're quite good. especially considering we only had 30mins to use a whole roll of film and only had the ugly university as a subject.

final thought: why is there always someone that thinks 'fancy dress' means 'look as much like a slag as possible'? strange.

all the fun of the zoo

i haven't been on the internet in forever and have just spent some quality time with the computer catching up on things. except the computer is mad at me for neglecting it and keeps cutting the internet off so i haven't actually caught up on everything i want to. rubbish.

anyway the main amazing news is me and my mummy went to whipsnade zoo on tuesday and it was awesome! (i didn't skank will, he skanked me for ac/dc so i had to make plans with mum coz i wouldn't have been able to handle sitting at home on my own knowing he was doing something so awesome.) (and he didn't actually skank me, he was offered a ticket by his friend after we were too slow trying to buy our own and he couldn't very well turn down an offer like that just because i wasn't going, that would have been insane)(and to be honest i'm quite glad he skanked me coz the zoo was awesome!)

we loved the zoo. we spent all day there and managed to see everything. and took a ton of photos. and had a picnic courtesy of mum which we ate overlooking the white rhinos and some deer type things. i sat on a rhino and mum took my picture. its alive and everything.

in all the times i have been to that zoo i have never seen the brown bears, at all. we went to look and we could see them all lazing about under trees and i was amazed. they were huge and looked so soft and furry but like they could eat you. then on our way back past after seeing the penguins and on our way to the wolves one of the bears was actually in the water splashing about playing with a stick! it was brilliant.

the cheetahs were adorable, just laying in their little house constantly licking each others heads looking pretty.

i'm going to go and steal the sloth bears and keep them in my garden/house due to their awesomeness.

the flamingos were fluorescent orange.

it was just generally an awesome day. thank you mummy! then we went home and i spent the night at the 'rents house which was so nice. i got to have a shower. i felt so clean and relaxed and then came back to our manky house. tried cleaning it to make it feel nice then realised that i clean it anyway, that's not the problem. the house is just rubbish and stressy. i either need to stay at my mums more often or never go there again so i can't compare. and that would be too sad coz their house is lovely.

in other news i jynxed myself by mentioning how i hadn't missed any of my sketch a days and have now missed loads but i'll blame work and easter and start again from tomorrow (i'm too full, hot and tired to do drawing now). but i do have a few that i haven't put up yet so here are those ones.

nikki sixx, harry potter and hermione granger (supposedly)

easter was nice. me and will spent some quality time with the telly and ps3 and chocolate (and each other, but i see him all the time anyway) and we had a bit of a roast but i spent the day feeling the wrath of my body letting me know i'm not pregnant. i have eaten far too much the past couple of days and its finally caught up with me. i feel so full and unhealthy tonight, its not good.

i have also failed 52 weeks again. don't know why i bother really, i hate photos of myself and this house is too ugly to take a nice photo in anyway. (i'm really peeved with the house at the moment incase you hadn't guessed.)

have some hard work ahead of me for uni. i'm way behind and getting more behind by the second. i'm completely screwed for the self promotion brief. i haven't got a clue what to do for it. but i'm plowing on with the twilight illustrations, even though it doesn't seem like it coz i'm just reading and making notes again but now i know my plan i need to make the notes so i can just get on with the imagery. fingers crossed it turns out good.

gonna sort this out in the morning now coz i can't be bothered with trying to upload to flickr and put pictures on this with the internet being so rubbish.

edit~i came back to this today so it's probably all lying about what i'm doing and what happened 'today' and stuff but i can't be bothered to sort it out.

today i did another sketch a day. it doesn't even have a face but there you go.

and this morning i did one of those peel off face mask thingys and was amazed that it came off all in one go.
how creepy is that?
anyway, i'm gonna go put pictures on flickr (which you should have a look at for more fun from the zoo) and watch hell's kitchen for my daily dose of fear from marco.
oh and michael sheen for aro in the twilight films gets 2 thumbs up from me. i can't wait!

spudzilla

went to welwyn today for a change of scenery and i found these in marks and spencer.

i love them and with the 20% off homeware and the vat cut they were only 78p for both! love it.

while queuing up for these will had the cheek to wander off and look at other stuff and in his absense some stupid old smelly man came and stood far to close to me and as though he was trying to sneak infront of me in the queue. and then when the queue moved forward he motioned for me to go first as though we'd both arrived at the queue at the same time and he was simply being gentlemanly!
urgh. lesson for the smelly old man: gentlemen wash!
anyway i love my new cups and i got to play with a teapot in costa and discover a new love for black tea when we stopped for lunch.
"sketch a day"'s from yesterday and today. i'm actually amazed i've kept it up so long. (all of 5 days)

this is bella without a face looking at the wonder that is the spudzilla label and my hand drawn from a photo i had of my hands. hopefully my hands don't look so manly in real life.

this is drawn from a new photo of robert pattinson that's appeared on lots of flickrs so naturally i can't credit the photographer because people who use flickr to hoard photos of the twilight lot have an aversion to crediting people. and he's censored because i drew those bits horribly wrong. i've not made him be doing something rude. which is what it looks like i've done.

"my name is on your boobies!"

we went to see the boat that rocked on monday.
i had to be lame and make a ticket for myself because we got special treament and didn't have to get tickets and i'm a freak.
the film was funny and made me want loads of tea and proper english food like egg and chips. i settled for a fried egg sandwich that will made me and it was awesome.
then we went to HMV and i got my Twilight dvd. and HMV are awesome because they do exclusives.
haha everyone who doesn't have just edward on their dvd.

will just told me how i told facebook that we were in a relationship (coz he only just gave in to facebook) and it asked him if he wanted to be in a relationship with me as though i was actually asking him out.
this is now how he is going to propose to me.

anyway, back to HMV, will got the the black freighter dvd which, it turns out, is more an under the hood dvd but that isn't even mentioned on the front. its awesome. if you liked watchmen (in either form) you should buy it. although don't watch the animated comic. for some reason they got one man to narrate the whole thing and it somehow made the pictures of laurie look manly?

here are my sketch a day's for yesterday and today.

i think you'll agree they are not good well mainly just the first one the second one is alright.
but you should know, i don't care. it's good for me to draw anyway.

sketch a day

my new plan, which should have always been my plan anyway, is to do a quick sketch every day. particularly of faces/people in an attempt to actually get better.
even if its absolute rubbish i'm going to put it up in an attempt to pressure myself into doing something half decent.
todays sketch:

copied from a photo by steve diet goedde of kimberly kane.

if you look too closely within your own world, you'll never go anywhere

wow, i just spent a good half hour trying to remember how to sign in to this. i tried every username and password i have ever used for anything and it turns out its just my normal email not some stupid new username i'd managed to forget in a day.

anyway.
myself and will went to uni yesterday to see graham rawle talk about his books and such. to be honest i wasn't expecting it to be great but it was actually really good. he's earned a couple of book sales out of it in the near future anyway. he is where the title came from. not sure if it's a direct quote or if my goldfish memory changed it before i managed to write it down but the point is the same.
here are some stolen* pictures of what he does:

week number 3 of my lame-o attempt at the 52 weeks project:

its not actually really me doing a self portrait, its a reference picture i took for one of the many projects (the one where i illustrate twilight infact, try to guess which part of the story this is for) i'm doing at the moment and thought i could recycle it seeing as i had nothing for 52weeks yet.
anyways, you should look at my flickr to see an action shot of grack and a little story as to why he is insane but happy.
i'm off to cook mushroom tortelloni for my lonely dinner. yum
*stolen from www.grahamrawle.com check 'im out.
