Sketchbook ~ Birds and Cold Sores

I spent my Sunday afternoon with my sketchbook.
Cold sore grump face is me. I am mad at my mouth for being so mean to me. Cold sores suck.

Did you notice the piece of rubber that got in the scanner and then on all three of these pictures? It's bugging me.

Day In The Life Of June 2013

Yesterday was the June day for the "Day in the Life of" group on flickr so here are my photos. (There are quite a few) I had planned to do it as a photo an hour type thing and I did take a photo every hour but some hours were rubbish photos and some hours were more than one good photo so I scrapped that. (A little insight into my mind there...)




I spent most of the day at the dining table slowly figuring out an R2-D2 phone pouch. Slowly because I was feeling rubbish rather than because it was hard. Will found me some helpers though and I had sweets. I ran out of black embroidery thread and decided we should go outside for a bit (Will was feeling equally rubbish, I blame the humidity) (I didn't buy more black embroidery thread, I'll blame the humidity again). R2's eye isn't a light it's that his head is translucent and the light shines out, I was amazed.



These weeds come back quicker than you can pull them out. Also it was much hotter than I thought it would be and probably shouldn't have been wearing thick leggings and boots. (I'll blame the humidity for all my bad choices, also our cave house is always colder than outside)




We ended up in the library where Will photocopied his hand and I took photos of the ceiling. I love taking photos in the library. I think it's a mixture of the nice lighting and my love for libraries.



This baby (we think) bird (blackbird?) let us get so close. It was eyeballing us pretty good though so I think if we'd crossed a line it would have run off.



It happened by accident that this was the next photo I took. Unintentionally morbid. It was propped up on a window ledge type section of building. Nature is really quite fascinating dead or alive.



Pretty flowers and home. Then I was inside with bad light so that's the last of that days photos. A pretty average day, sitting in one place for ages working then deciding I have to go outside or I'll explode.

Day 165 - I spent the whole day painting this pattern inspired by a book about British Quilts I read recently.



Day 166 - Will working at his desk while I hang out in his studio pestering him.



Day 167 - My fancy hand.



Day 168 - A kind of creepy army of faceless Totoros made creepier by the glowing whiteness of the little ones. Creepy.

I recently read a book about British quilts and then this drawing was born.
I did all the colour in one day (with a triple 0 brush) and at the end I was a little crazy.

Day 158 - These were meant to be biscuits but they're more like flat cake scone thingys gone wrong. Half of them have chocolate orange in and half have toffee crisp in so we didn't care what they were except that they were so tasty.

The Cute and the Not So Cute

We went over to the meadow this morning to check on the woodpeckers. We were pretty sure we wouldn't see them but when we got there one was still in the nest and we found another chick hanging around in the nearby trees. A parent came back once while we were there to feed the one still in the nest.
It was so cute watching the chick climb around in the trees, it wasn't quite so graceful as the adult, a bit fluffier and rather than just shimmying along like woodpeckers do it was a little wobbly and kept having to flap its wings to keep balance. It was quite a treat because we thought once they left the nest we wouldn't get to see them again.

On the way back home we found this chunky beetle thing (my research tells me it's a cockchafer). Will picked it up to take home for further inspection or something, we don't really know what we were going to do with it and then just as we got to our front door it's legs started moving and we freaked out because we thought it was dead (and are wimps). Will put it down under a bush thinking it would recover itself but we went outside later and it was being eaten by ants.

Nature's so lovely.
