Post Birds Castle Visit Part 2

I really like the displays in the museum that show how the taxidermists may have had their work areas. Makes me wish bits of my house looked more like this.

There is a piece called FINE by Kate MccGwire in the natural history area of the museum as part of the Birds exhibition. It's quite incredible, made all of feathers lying so perfectly. I, with my limited actual photography knowledge, found the glass case far too reflective for a photo but you can see it here on Kate's website. Even though I didn't get a good image of FINE itself I really like the images I got once I realised I should just concentrate on the reflections and the piece as a whole for the photos.




To end, here's an overheard conversation from this castle visit:
"Are you into collecting anything?"
"No, you?"
"No. I'm into getting good at stuff."
"Exactly."

Post Birds Castle Visit Part 1

After looking around the Wonder of Birds exhibit we ate our tin foil wrapped sandwiches and halved a Boost bar before heading off into the natural history area. I don't think we're capable of going to the castle museum without going in the natural history area. I imagine I'm just in there taking the same photos as I did last time but I don't really care.



This last photo is labelled "Venus Flower Basket. Euplectella aspergillum. The delicate internal skeleton of a Glass Sponge." How cool is that?

Answer: Very cool.

The Wonder of Birds at Norwich Castle

On Wednesday we went to the castle to see the current exhibition The Wonder of Birds. Photography wasn't allowed but I did some sketching and note taking.
It was really interesting and had such a good mix of items from taxidermy to painting to fashion to ceramics, natural history items, all sorts of things. We were in there for a good 2 hours, there's a lot to see.



There was a Katrina van Grouw piece which was nice to see close up. I heard about the book she's been working on a while ago and instantly wanted it so it was a nice surprise to see something from that in real life.
I was really quite taken by the painting French Partridges by Cedric Morris. I thought I'd be able to find it on google but google has failed me. I'll have to just go back to the exhibition and memorise it.




At first I was a little disappointed that most of the taxidermy was up high, above the other pieces being exhibited, so you couldn't get a really close look at them but I quickly fell in love with the idea because it meant you got to see the birds from angles you wouldn't normally and it gave them all a lot of character. They weren't behind glass either which was nice.



The canaries made me laugh so much, I had no idea they sometimes have weird little toupée hair. It was amazing.

Whether you have an interest in all sorts of bird info or you want to have a laugh at a little row of toupée wearing canaries (or both) and you're in Norwich you should go and check it out. It was a really good exhibition and we're hoping to go again before it closes in September.

The Anti-Social Club ~ Shadow

I almost didn't do anything for this weeks Anti-Social Club but then with it being stupidly sunny today I figured I could manage a quick something and I'm glad I did because making gifs is just too fun.

June

I feel like I just ploughed through June without stopping to pay much attention so I don't really have any little thoughts about it or maybe it's just trying to think in this heat today but I do have a few photos that didn't get shared elsewhere so here are those.



Things in June:
The Crashing of Porcelain by Martin Klimas. Gorgeous photos of dropped figures just as they smash. The poses (and the photographic skills that must go into setting something like this up) are amazing.

That's it because like I said June just happened a little out of my control and I didn't remember to note down any of the other things I saw but those porcelain photos are awesome so it kind of makes up for the lack of sharing.

What My Phone Saw ~ June

The lino print 'thank you's I'd made for orders ran out so I started just drawing them which I think is better anyway.



I took a lot of photos of myself in the morning in June (I don't know). Sometimes you wake up with hair you kind of wish was how you have your hair.



I'd never met that cat before. I crouched down to say hello and it curled up in my lap // Party on.
