Yay Tarquin

Two new additions to my Etsy.
I actually thought the Tarquin print was already on there but only the card was listed.
I'm working on a few different banners and also a customisable listing for them but I figured I'd list them as I made them so here's the first one.


*For the letters on the yay banner I used this pattern by Moogly with a few adjustments, the banner itself is my own design.

Norfolk and Norwich Festival ~ Tipping Point

We went to see Tipping Point by Kathy Hinde.
"Tipping Point explores the sonic complexities and possibilities of combining water with glass vessels and the resulting frequencies and feedback tones that are created through different water levels. The work will form both a sound sculpture and the basis of a live performance. "



I took that quote from the festival website because there's no way I was going to explain it myself in a way that didn't make it sound awful. We went in a dark room and there were tubes with water in on stands with wires or something and it was making creepy noises and lights went on and off in the tubes and it was all very creepy. Like something from a sci-fi film.



It was really cool. I wanted to just sit in the middle of them on the cold, hard floor and be creeped out and relaxed. We're hoping to go back on Sunday for the live performance piece that goes with it.

After Dinner Stroll

The cows are back in the meadow! We went for an after dinner stroll to go say hello. (Or hide behind trees and look from afar because I'm too urban for my own good and I think they're going to trample me)



We went over there at just the right time, the light was gorgeous.



This may be blurry but I think that's why I like it.



We found another big shell and some ceramic pieces to add to our jar. I can't remember if I've mentioned the shells here before. We're finding them quite regularly and they're pretty big, we can't work out if they live in the river or if they're rubbish that's being washed up or any other reason for them being there. They're cool though. We find quite a lot of ceramic down there too.

The Anti-Social Club ~ Nature

This weeks Anti-Social Club theme was nature. It's a pretty open theme which threw me at first, too much to choose from! But I settled on the idea of a fancy bug and ended up with this fella.

Sketchbook ~ Ladies, Ladies, Ladies

Some pages from the sketchbook that lives in my bag.
I've taken to saving photos I might be able to draw from on my phone as and when I find them while I'm browsing around on the internets so I always have something to use as reference when my head or where I'm looking fails me.
It's handy but I wonder if it's a bit creepy to have a collection of photos of people I don't know on my phone...

Films I Watched ~ April

 

One of the reasons I'm doing these lists is to help improve my typography skills and I had the idea this month to draw the titles from the film posters so that I draw out a variety of types that I wouldn't have done left to my own devices.

I didn't spend ages trying to get them exact, I just thought it'd be a good little exercise. Also brought to my attention that two films about the same book made years apart will have pretty much the same type.

Both the Musketeers films (2011 and 1993) (which just happened to be on TV I didn't seek them out) were a bit meh but fun I guess. The newer one at least looked good for sets and costume but there was far too much 'something just happened, the audience is probably too stupid to realise it, we'll get a character to say it out loud for them'.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid was all about Rowley for me, I loved him.

When we saw how long The Raid 2 was we thought Odeon had made a mistake but it really was that long. And awesome.

I used to think I didn't like Matt Damon except for Dogma. I don't know where that opinion came from, these days I think he's great. Also Heath Ledger and fairy tales so The Brother's Grimm had it all really.

Hairspray is always brilliant.

The Artist was just as good as I remembered it to be.

We first saw The General in The Prince Charles Cinema in London with a live piano score but even at home on dvd it's so so good.

Norfolk and Norwich Festival ~ The People's Tower

This years Norfolk and Norwich Festival has begun and as ever there are plenty of free outdoor performances (and indoor exhibitions) for us poor folk to enjoy. The first was The People's Tower by Olivier Grossetête on Saturday. Volunteers built a cardboard replica of the church outside the library and at the end of the day it got pulled down and everyone got to destroy it in a childlike frenzy.




When I was there it hadn't been finished yet and was already really tall, especially for something made out of cardboard. I really wanted to spend all day sat there watching it but I had work to do so I just popped over quickly for a peek. I got to see them lift it to put in a new layer which was pretty cool.
