The Anti-Social Club ~ Friday 13th

Untitled

This weeks Anti Social Club theme was Friday 13th. I was thinking about how even though Friday 13th is traditionally a day of bad luck some people embrace it as a lucky day for themselves. I know that black cats are associated with both good luck and bad luck so I thought a cat would suit the theme quite well.

Some black cat 'facts' from wikipedia that I liked:
The character Behemoth in "The Master and Margarita", an enormous black cat, capable of standing on two legs and talking, has a penchant for chess, vodka and pistols.
A cat having black fur with white roots is known as a "black smoke."
The Scottish believe that a strange black cat's arrival to the home signifies prosperity.
In Germany, some believe that black cats crossing a person's path from right to left, is a bad omen. But from left to right, the cat is granting favorable times.
Most of Europe considers the black cat a symbol of bad luck, especially if one crosses paths with a person, which is believed to be an omen of misfortune and death.

I fancied making an amigurumi cat and I left most of her face bare so you can decide for yourself whether her intense gaze is bringing you good or bad things. Hopefully good though.

En'cow'nter

Untitled Untitled

Last night Will went out for his run round the meadow and when he got back he told me how he'd gone round a corner and almost ran into a pair of cows. He gave them a bit of a bum rub and went to carry on his way but then another one came from the other direction and he got a bit trapped which concerned him slightly. The new cow headed for him snorting like a crazy and he wasn't sure what she was doing and then she licked him, the length of his forearm, a few times. When she was done she moved on and he carried on along the path cow free. I'm pretty scared of the cows. I think they're lovely but they're big enough to trample me. After Will's story though I figured they were quite tame so this afternoon we went to see them again.

I wasn't brave enough to give them a pat due to a mixture of nervouness and not wanting to get licked but I got pretty close. Will's forearm got a thorough licking again and he actually has little graze marks on his arm, who knows what sort of injuries a cow lick would cause a weakling like me.

Colour and Fluff

Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled

Here's the last of the photos from the walk I've been sharing (here and here). It's so colourful out there lately. That fluff in the last photo has been flying around for ages now. So much of it floats around that it looks kind of like it's starting to snow, but fluffier. It also gets in the house, you can't see it and then you move and it wafts a load of it around. It's kind of pretty but to me it just looks like hayfever even though I'm probably not even allergic to it.

My New House Plant Is An Oak Tree

Untitled

I was in the garden doing a spot of weeding and noticed what I at first thought was a little potato on the end of one of the roots. We'd found potatoes in the garden before which is why I just came to that conclusion without really looking and then Will pointed out it was an acorn and we were amazed by the fact I was carrying a little oak tree around with me. Once he pointed it out it was so obvious, I can't believe I didn't notice the leaves.

Untitled Untitled

I decided to put it in a tin can of mud and see what happens. It's currently sitting on the windowsill in my studio. I wonder if it'll survive. My very own bonsai oak.

Untitled

I mentioned to Will a while ago that I wanted a curly pond snail shell and today he brought me one home from his run and then oddly I found one while I was weeding. The prettier one on the right is the one Will found for me. Although they're the same size the one I found is a lot thicker.
Also today we picked the first of our strawberries. 4 oddly shaped tasty berries. I know everyone says it but there's always something special about eating something you've grown yourself even if it is tiny and gone instantly.
A pretty good nature based Sunday.

In The City

Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled

Sometimes it makes me laugh that Norwich is a city. It's so much just some buildings in the countryside.
I took these photos yesterday while we were out doing our city projects for The Anti-Social Club. That's what Will is doing in that second photo, you can see what he was up to here on his blog.
