Sea Palling Part 1

My parents came to visit and for second birthday weekend we spent a day at the beach. It's been years and years since I spent a proper day at the seaside, just hanging out playing with sand, putting my feet in the sea, eating a picnic, looking in rock pools. It was really good and luckily in the middle of all the rain lately we had a wonderfully sunny day with just enough breeze to get bits of sand in your food. Perfect beach weather.



We went rock pooling and Will found a Hermit crab! It was so cool. We put her in our bucket and showed her off like proud kids then popped her back in the water where she proceeded to wander about climbing a rock (and then rather ungracefully fell over backwards but she recovered quite quickly). We named her Hermione. Hermione the Hermit Crab.



Will built a pretty good castle. It even got some admiring comments from passers by. It had a moat, a protective wall and a mound for the main castle. Just like a medieval castle town. He was pretty pleased with himself.



When the tide started coming in the two sides of sea started to join where there had been sand and the waves were hitting each other which was pretty cool. Tides are so weird, those rocks in the background were where we were rock pooling and then in the afternoon they seemed so far out in the sea.

Films I Watched ~ June and July

It got really late into July and I hadn't done this for June but I also hadn't watched many films in July so I merged them together.
Street Fighter was actually better than I thought it would be. Which I guess wasn't hard. I will always watch Dirty Dancing and Stardust when they come on the telly. I'd never seen Forrest Gump. It made me sad. Psycho was as good as ever. I could have done without Mr.Popper's Penguins. I enjoyed Thor. Mars Attacks is something I should have seen long before now but never did. I really liked it. Maleficent was brilliant. It made me cry. A few times. Speaking of crying, Dragons was ridiculous. Hairspray is another telly repeat favourite. Big Trouble in Little China is just so much fun. Rise of the Planet of the Apes surprised me, I wasn't expecting to think much of it but it was actually pretty good.

Although I have done a self portrait every day so far some of them have been half asleep scribbles that really are too rubbish to be shared which is why some of the numbers are missing.
I highly recommend making gnocchi from scratch. I used Jack Monroe's recipe (putting my birthday presents to good use) and it was so so much better than the shop bought stuff. Plus, there's the added joy of making something.

Things this month:
I found out that Enid Coleslaw (Ghost World) is an anagram of Daniel Clowes and felt like it was something I should already know.
I read Strange Weather In Tokyo (which I would recommend) and there was a conversation in it where two characters are talking about swirling wine around the glass and it changing the taste. I tried it for myself expecting to not notice any difference but it actually worked. Not that I'd bother with it other than for the novelty.

There were dragonflies everywhere. We'd had a lot of bright blue damselflies hanging around but the dragonflies were out in full force the past couple of weeks, I've never seen so many.
Our house is full of moths.

Birthday

It was my birthday on Sunday so here are a bunch of photos I took on a bunch of different cameras.



I spent the morning of my 27th birthday sticking stickers all over the back of my phone. Will's phone got upgraded so I've second hand upgraded to his old one which now means I have a front facing camera which means I'm taking a lot of photos of my face these days.

I thought our Polaroid was empty but I randomly checked it the other day and it had a few photos left so we used them up. It's very much expired. I bought the film in a supermarket just before I found out they were going to stop making it.



There were lots of snacks.

We made pot sticker dumplings. It was nice sitting together folding away and now we have a stash in the freezer. We used this recipe but with spring onions instead of shallots and went a bit freestyle with the folding.



Will made me an incredibly tasty cake. Chocolate sponge with white chocolate chunks sandwiched together with chocolate buttercream topped with cream cheese/sour cream frosting. For some reason the icing leeched all the colour out of the smarties but that turned them kind of pastel which was pretty. Also there are tiny sugar dinosaurs!



Presents!! Such a good selection, much thanks to all the lovely present giving folk. Will made me an ugly unicorn patch. I love ugly unicorns so much.



And next weekend my parents are coming for a visit for second birthday weekend, yay!!
